Figure 2: Fluorescent Nanocrystals

Below is a diagram of the charge distribution in a fluorescent nanocrystal. A nanocrystal will fluoresce (emit light of a certain wavelength) after infrared light has been shined upon it, causing electronic excitation. Also pictured below are two mem bers of the research group that helped discover the dipole moment and establish its magnitude. One of the methods used to describe the dipole moment found excitations that resulted from either one or two photons.
