About Gene

Gene Mazenko PhotoGene F. Mazenko received his Ph.D. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1971. After working as a research associate at Harvard and Stanford, he joined the faculty of the Department of Physics of the University of Chicago and was named an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellow in 1977. A former director of the James Franck Institute, he has also served as a visiting professor at the University of California at San Diego and Oxford University and as a consultant for the Argonne National Laboratory. Professor Mazenko was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1987 and is the author of three textbooks -- Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics; Fluctuations, Order, and Defects; and Nonequilibrium Statistical Mechanics.
