RATES
Overview
Recharge recovery is necessary to sustain the ongoing viability of the MPML and support service contracts, equipment maintenance, and user training. A flat per group User Facility Access Fee supports use of most instruments by trained users without hourly charges. Instruments are organized into Tiers 0-4 based on complexity and training time required for typical operation. Users are responsible for all consumable supplies including cuvettes, solvents, pipettes, coverslips, AFM tips, SEM stubs, evaporation materials, etc. Some consumable supplies such as AFM probes, deposition materials, and 3D printer materials may be purchased from the lab. All External users must provide a valid PO before access is granted or services are provided.
User Facility Access Fee
The User Facility Access Fee provides user access to all instrumentation, training for Tier 0 instruments, usage of Tier 0-3 instruments, and ongoing support for all instruments. The User Facility Access fee is charged quarterly per PI group and covers up to 10 users per group. The User Facility Access Fee will be charged only when a group uses our tools. It is not an automatic subscription and may not be pro-rated.
Instrument User Hourly Fees
Most instruments (Tiers 0-3) do not have hourly usage fees and are supported by the User Facility Access Fee. Tier 4 instruments, such as our SEMs, have hourly fees to support expensive service contracts.
Instrument User Training Fees
Training is required for access to instruments. Training fees are flat fees charged per user. Most training and required practice sessions for routine operation may be completed in 2 to 4 hours, although occasionally more time may be necessary. Advanced technique training may be requested after standard training is completed. Refresher training sessions may be required if a user has not used a tool for several months, especially if they do not immediately start using a tool after initial training.
Staff Service, Assistance Special Projects, and Consulting
We are primarily a user facility but from time-to-time Staff may provide special projects, consulting, or measurements as service. This includes assisted operation of instruments for or with users. In these cases, staff time will be charged in addition to instrument time (if applicable).

User Facility Access Fee and Service Rates
The User Facility Access Fee is charged quarterly per PI group and may not be pro-rated. Quarters start Jan 1st, April 1st, July 1st, & Oct 1st. The User Facility Access Fee is not an automatic subscription and will only be charged when a PI group uses our tools. Staff time for assisted usage, service, and special projects will be charged in addition to any applicable instrument time and consumables.

Waterjet Supplies
Our ProtoMAX waterjet cutting system consumes 85 HPX garnet. Material is recharged per minute of cutting based on standard flow rates.
